Successful Extended Day – Expression is Elementary

Posted by on Sep 30, 2015 in Music Education Commentary, Our Teachers, Prelude Chamber Music, Testimonials | 0 comments

Often, we focus so much on playing our instruments well or learning a new technique that we forget to have fun and embody what we mean, to tell the story we meant to tell. At Prelude Chamber Music, we teach that emotions and expression are a really important facet of music appreciation and performance. For our younger kids in 2015, we added a new enrichment program for the late afternoon hours providing more exploratory ways to grow expressively through music and visual story-telling. What started out as a way to help our families that needed a later pick up time option in order for their children to be able to participate in our music camp, quickly blossomed into a big hit. Kids enjoyed finding new ways to connect their mood and story ideas with a visual interpretation of their emotions and a little acting. We thank our donors who saw a need and stepped up to help! We Love Prelude Chamber Music – Trio and Quartet Inspiration

Posted by on Sep 30, 2015 in Music Education Commentary, Our Teachers, Prelude Chamber Music, Testimonials, Uncategorized | 0 comments

“My children, ages 15 and 12, have attended Prelude Chamber Music Camp every year they were age-eligible. Initially, the greatest benefits were to work with and get to know our fine Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra musicians and to meet peer string players from a larger area than our youth symphony attracts. Then there was the obvious – the rare opportunity to play in small ensembles. The exposure to the rich string quartet literature and the specialized skills gained from performing chamber music have enhanced my children’s musicianship and love of their instruments. They were inspired to start their own trios and quartets! We have returned to camp, year after year, because it has grown with the children. The addition of master classes and performances with world renowned quartets, such as the Dover Quartet and Vega Quartet, has elevated the camp to new levels. It is a huge privilege to learn from these accomplished young role models in a friendly setting where they are approachable and eager to share. Thanks to its founder and longtime Jacksonville resident, Jeanne Majors, Prelude Chamber Music Camp embodies that big, small-town character that makes Jacksonville special. It is a blessing to have a camp of such high caliber so close to home.” – Elizabeth Maddox

Prelude Chamber Music Camp, an Enriching Experience

“We’ve been fans of Prelude Chamber Music Camp for 6 years! The camp has been a staple of our summer activities. They have something for everyone, from my 7 year-old  beginning violinist to my 14 year-old advanced violist. Beginners grow beautifully as musicians in a supportive and encouraging environment while advanced players enjoy challenging repertoire and are expertly guided by some of the best professionals in the area. There’s plenty of time for friends and fun with enriching elective activities such as guitar, chorus, and fiddling. We’re incredibly fortunate to have such a valuable resource in our own backyard!,” Mom, Remmer (January 2014).

Prelude Chamber Music Camp, Ria comments on Theory and Composition

Posted by on Oct 10, 2013 in Our Teachers, Prelude Chamber Music, Testimonials | 0 comments

“Theory and composition are an important part of the camp. All musicians need to know theory and Prelude offers all levels of theory from the fundamentals to advanced. When they have reached this level they can move on up to the composition class taught by Dr. Peter MacDonald. He is an innovative teacher and has helped students to go beyond their regular ways of thinking about music and composition. He uses all styles of music and encourages personal expression within given parameters. It is very fulfilling to hear your original composition played at the end-of-the-week concert. These performances are fresh and help the kids to stay abreast of new music.” Ria Falkner, Staff, October 2013

Prelude Chamber Music Camp, Remembering Fondly and Summer Music Festivals

Posted by on May 31, 2013 in Our Teachers, Prelude Chamber Music, Testimonials | 0 comments

“The Prelude Chamber Music camp was an important part of my musical upbringing.  It introduced me and many other young students to the wonderful world of summer music festivals.

Summer music festivals are some of the most interesting and exciting times in an advanced musician’s life.  They offer the musician a chance to meet and make music with new friends and to receive intense instruction from many different master musicians.  They bring an international cast of students and faculty together to play in orchestras and perform chamber music together in small groups. Even though the students that attend Prelude Chamber Music camp are for the most part too young to be able to experience these kinds of international music festivals they still deserve to enjoy music in the same manner. Prelude Chamber Music provides the perfect setting for young musicians and is the only organization in Jacksonville that can offer this kind of intense musical summer experience.

I remember my many years at Prelude Chamber Music very fondly.  I made many new friends in the ensembles at Prelude Chamber Music, and the faculty of great local musicians were incredibly helpful and friendly. I played in many chamber groups and also played in the string orchestra, but I never felt pressured from competitiveness.

I am now just about to obtain my master’s degree in violin performance and am traveling to England and Japan this summer to play music in wonderful international music festivals, but I will always remember Prelude Chamber Music as being my first stepping stone,”
John Henry Kruer, Violinist (May 2013).
