Vega String Quartet

Prelude Chamber Music celebrates its 15th Anniversary this summer with the Vega String Quartet! Presenting a new generation of passionate and educated chamber music lovers the Prelude Chamber Music Festival will kick off June 12th in Jacksonville, Florida.

The Vega String Quartet will perform in Jacksonville’s Riverside district during the festival June 12th-19th. Their first and only full-length concert for the week will be on Thursday, 7:30 PM, in the Riverside Park United Methodist Church sanctuary. The Friday Musicale will host the concert finale to be shared with the Prelude Chamber Music Intensive Ensembles on Sunday afternoon, June 19th. Both concerts are free and open to the public.

To participate in the festival week as a musician and receive instruction by Prelude Chamber Music faculty and the Vega Quartet, sign up by April 1st and go to the placement audition on April 16th. This chamber music festival begins with a week-long program for players of all levels and ages. Instructors are comprised of Jacksonville’s finest musicians. Student ensembles are formed based on placement audition (held April 16th). The tuition for June 12th – June 19th includes 5+ days of classes, workshops, ensemble coachings and more. The week culminates with several student recitals held on Saturday and Sunday.  The award winning Vega String Quartet will be “resident artists” for several days of added instruction and ensemble preparation.

The Vega Quartet brings energy and excitement to the stage. With dazzling virtuosity, the Vega’s major projects include the complete cycle of Beethoven Quartets, a Bach–Bartók cycle, and the commissions and premieres of works by numerous leading composers. Their contemporary style, silken sound, and driving excitement have attracted international acclaim for over a decade.

Comprised of members Domenic Salerni, Jessica Wu, Yinzi Kong, and Guang Wang, Vega Quartet has won numerous national and international awards and prizes. As the resident quartet, they started the Youth Chamber Music Program at Emory University and have developed innovative programs collaborating with other art forms including dance, painting, poetry and theatre.

The quartet has toured throughout Asia, Europe and North America, including major cities such as Brussels, Cologne, London, New York, Mexico City, Paris, Seoul, Tokyo and Vancouver; and in major venues at Carnegie Hall and at the Royal Academy of Music, London.
